About the Georgia Department of Transportation

DOT is responsible for all safety considerations at all work sites on Georgia’s highways and interstates.

Most highway worksite injuries and deaths involve the workers on site. Nearly all such accidents are preventable and the DOT is constantly upgrading work site requirements in an effort to reduce accidents and fatalities. Because of this constant improvement, it is recommended that you contact your DOT rep prior to each job because requirements may have changed. DOT enforcement may also differ from county to county.

Please be aware that the DOT can and will shut down your worksite if you are not adhering to their requirements. Prior approval can save you many headaches on the job.

The Georgia DOT has offices all over the state. If you are not familiar with your local DOT, call the state information telephone number (800) 573-6445 to be directed to your serving district office.
